  • Yes We Can...what?!

This past presidential election has been interesting and I've found myself more fascinated by American politics rather than the Canadian's.

I'm sure Obama will do good things for North America, and that his inauguration is indeed a historical event which shows how far society has come.  However, it's hard to stop and think about the magnitude of his popularity.  Entire nations look to this one guy to bring about change...the word itself was used over and over again in his campaign yet it is so hard to pin point what this change means or signfies.

Like other areas in our lives, the ability to act as citizens dimishes as we are more and more addressed as consumers.  I for one, am guilty of acting far more like a consumer than a citizen - I'll be the first to admit! Obama has become a brand that we identify with and have come to worship, even for those who are not allowed to vote in the American election.  This whole election was about voting for a name or ideal.  We are more concerned with the image that his name is associated with, and we have treated his election as if we were buying another product.  His name has becomed celebritized, and people are more concerned with what he and his wife are wearing much less about his ability has a leader. Don't get me wrong - because of this election and Obama, people have participated in the political process.  Despite how they came to make their decision, they at least exercised their right to vote, no matter how informed their decision was.

He has become the savior in a time of economic instability and turbulent times.  His election is the answer to the war on terrorism, and global warming.  His position as the leader of the free world will solve all problems and because he is now the president, change will and has happened.  Doesn't all of that seem a bit much, if not more of a self fullfilling prophecy rather than the act of a good leader?

Now, like I said, I'm sure Obama will do good things these next four years...but at the same time, isn't it a little dangerous to put all your hope into one man? In doing so, aren't we building him up as an idol to be worshipped?

  • in a restless state...

Throughout my life, there have been times where I hit a point of transition, whether it be a pending graduation or a moment where one stage ends and another begins.
During these times I usually face it with excitement and although it can be scary, it's a good scary.  But often, I also enter into a state of restlessness plagued with doubt and worry.  It is in my nature to worry and if there is anything to worry about, my mind will wander to the worst possible ideas or thoughts.  I now find myself retreating back to my old habits as my mind is currently filled with endless thoughts.  In a few short months, I'll find myself making decisions that can impact my future.  Looking at where I am now, I cannot help but feel discontentment and dissatisfaction that the choices I make now will negatively shape my future.
Particularly in the area of work, I feel like I'm grasping for opportunities where none exist.  I'm trying to forge relationships that are not progressing and I'm feeling helpless and stuck.  I don't regret my decisions but at the same time, I feel like they have lead me nowhere.
It's weird, I always thought I knew what I wanted, where I wanted go, what to become and which direction to head.  But now, those ideas seem to be fading quickly and I'm left confused and slightly irritated.
Times like these require unwavering faith.  I've learned that it is ok to wrestle through these times, but it is more important to remain faithful to God.  So now, I stand here at cross roads, hoping that when the time comes to face these pending decisions, that I will at some point, know which direction to take.

  • "The best part of Nov 1 is going on facebook and looking at everyone's halloween pics"
My friend recently made this remark to me when we were hanging out at her house watching season 1 of "How I Met Your Mother" *Best show ever.

It's funny, looking at Halloween pictures, how uncreative people are with their costumes.  It appears that Halloween is the one nite a year, where girls reveal their inner sluttiness sexiness.  Since when did it become creative to put on some lingerie and animal ears and call yourself a cat, a mouse, etc.?  I find it even funnier how any occupation changes to a slutier sexier version.  I get why some people do it..it's the one nite you can let out some inhibition without being judged..but i guess it's just not for me. I rather see something original and creative.  For example, I heard about a group of people who always have themed costumes..that their entrance to a party is THE entrance.  Apparently, this year they dressed up as the four different versions of Forest Gump..how incredibly innovative..

  • Tainted Milk

Working at Agriculture and Agri Food Canada, I get updated about food products all around the globe.  Most recently, there has been quite an uproar regarding the tainted milk in China.  Most often, the milk we consume is diluted and replaced with melamine.   It's amazing how global our food really is because what is happening half way across the world effects many of us in North America.   Many products imported from China are recalled and taken off the shelves.  Today at work, I was shocked to find out that this product was recalled

I grew up eating these cookies! so sad..but they are getting pulled off the shelves of many chinese grocery stores..

Next it will be this...my all time favorite drink..not just vitasoy..vita soy good! i drink at least one a day..and leave those little white containers around everywhere i go
